My Subscription Side Quest Favorites (Part 2)

As one of my 5 side quests for 2025, I challenged myself to watch something from each of our subscription channels every month. So far, this has been one of the more fun challenges that I have engaged in, and it’s introduced me to some really great television and movies.

I thought I would share some of my favorites from the second quarter of the year in case you are looking for something to add to your to-watch pile (you can also see my favorites from the first quarter of the year in this blog post).

Yellowjackets (Paramount+) – I got completely sucked into this show about a group of teenage soccer players who survive a plane crash. The show goes back and forth between the time of the crash and the characters as adult women who are, to put it mildly, all traumatized and damaged in their own ways from the experience they had. I’m a couple seasons in and have been really enjoying this one.

Adolescence (Netflix) – I binge watched this four-episode show in just one evening. Each episode is one continuous shot, which was a very artistic element to experience. The show is about a teenage boy who is accused of killing a classmate and follows the aftermath and impacts on him and his family. The third episode of the four was my favorite.

Nobody Wants This (Netflix) – I was not expecting to like this show as much as I did. I watched the first half of the first season in one night (each episode is a quick 30 minutes or less) and the story line about a woman podcaster who begins a relationship with a rabbi had me laughing out loud (and eventually convincing my partner to watch as well).

Light and Magic (Disney+) – I loved watching this show about the special effects team that has worked on Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and several other canonical films. The genuine passion and incredible creativity of the special effects artists was truly inspiring to watch.

The Lie (Prime Video) – This movie, about two divorced parents of a teenage girl who are trying to cover up a crime she commits, was so fun to watch. It had just the right amount of suspense, great acting, and there’s a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming (and I love when that happens).

What are some of the television shows and films that you’ve been loving lately?
