I think I may be about to enter into a self-designed magazine era.

It’s been a while since I’ve read magazines and there are so many interesting ones available through my library.

I already have a subscription to Oh Reader, which I really enjoy, but here are some of the other magazines on my radar that I want to look into more in the coming months:

  • Booklist: Magazines that offer book reviews of recent releases are my absolute favorites. This one is written for librarians, but it seems like it could be right up my alley.
  • Booklist Reader: This is the partner magazine to the Booklist edition that’s meant for library patrons. I’m planning to check out both and see which one I tend to like more.
  • AudioFile: This magazine that focuses on audiobook reviews is not available at my library, but it’s a publication that I’ve subscribed to in the past. Given my love for audiobooks, I might need to look into subscribing again!
  • The New York Review of Books: As I mentioned, I love book reviews and the NYT tends to cover more literary fiction and nonfiction reviews for books that I don’t always hear about on social media.
  • Women’s Running: Since I’ve gotten back into running, this magazine seems like a good fit.
  • Outside: I’ve seen several books that have been written in expansions from articles from this magazine. I haven’t ever read it consistently, but the long-form essays are what draw me to this publication.
  • Writer’s Digest: I love reading, but I love writing, too. This trade magazine is one that I’ve dipped in and out of in the past and would like to revisit.
  • Poets and Writers: This is similar to the magazine above, but it also does a good job of profiling writers and poets, which I always find fun.
  • MIT Sloan Management Review: I miss my HBR magazine subscription, but it’s too pricey for me to justify at the moment. This one seems like it might be a nice intermediate replacement, especially since I can get it for free from my library.
  • Publisher’s Weekly: This is another publication that my library doesn’t have, but that I’ve considered to subscribing to since I’ve purchased a couple individual issues. In particular, I love the seasonal guides of upcoming books that are being released.

Do you read magazines? Are you a digital or hard copy magazine reader? What are some of your favorites?
