I mentioned in a recent podcast episode that I’ve been creating a to-watch list of movies and television shows. I haven’t been great about building in time to watch things lately, so having a list handy helps me to remember what I want to watch and to build it in to my schedule when I have open time.

As you’ll see, the majority of these are book adaptations, which really demonstrates how many movies and shows are being produced from books.

Here are some of the things that I’ve been wanting to watch (and where they are currently available to stream or rent):

Movies

  • Little Women (2019 version; Hulu): I’m a huge fan of watching adaptations of books and this is a version that I haven’t seen yet.
  • Pride and Prejudice (2005 version; Prime): Another adaptation version I haven’t seen yet.
  • Turtles All the Way Down (Max): A recent adaptation of a John Green young adult novel that I read this past year.
  • The Idea of You (Prime): An adaptation of a romance novel I read this past year.
  • Get Back (Disney+): A documentary on The Beatles that I started, but haven’t finished yet. It’s so fascinating to watch their creative process.
  • The Good Nurse (Netflix): An adaptation of a non-fiction true crime book that I read in the last couple of years.

Shows

  • You (Netflix): I haven’t read this book series, but started the television show and I’m a couple seasons in.
  • Dawson’s Creek (Hulu): I started re-watching this series last year and haven’t finished it yet.
  • Dexter: New Blood (Showtime): I watched the original series and want to eventually get to this reboot.
  • Bridgerton (Netflix): I haven’t read the books, but people seem to love this show so I think it would be fun to watch.
  • The Summer I Turned Pretty (Prime): I’ll be reading this young adult romance series this summer, so I plan to watch the adaptation after.
  • Heartstopper (Netflix): I’ve read all the graphic novels of this young adult romance series and want to eventually watch the adaptation.
  • Dark Matter (AppleTV+): A book adaptation of a sci-fi thriller by Blake Crouch.
  • Daisy Jones and the Six (Prime): A book adaptation of a fictional oral history of a band by Taylor Jenkins Reid that I haven’t watched yet.
  • All the Light We Cannot See (Netflix): Another book adaptation that I haven’t watched yet.
  • Karen Pirie (BritBox): I’m reading this mystery series by Val McDermid this year and want to watch the show after I finish the books.
  • Presumed Innocent (Apple+): This is a reboot of a movie adaptation based on a 1987 novel and I’m really looking forward to it.

Coming Soon

  • A Good Girls Guide to Murder (Netflix): This is a forthcoming adaptation of a young adult mystery series I really enjoyed.
  • It Ends With Us (Netflix): An adaptation of a romance novel I read last year.

What else should I add to my to-watch list?
